Welcome to Middle College High School ’s Social Studies Department. Our dedicated staff works diligently with students creating an atmosphere conducive to learning history and we are proud of our innovative methods utilized to impart knowledge of social studies. The use of technology is a significant tool to enhance our students’ ability to understand the subject matter at various levels. All of our teachers specialize in this discipline and possess immeasurable creativity which enables them to impart required knowledge to students at all levels.

Courses offered include but are not limited to Global Studies, American History, Law, Economics and Participation in Government. In addition we are extremely proud of our Advanced Placement (AP) courses in World History and American History. AP classes afford students the ability to analyze and interpret events in social studies on a college level. These courses may also be used in fulfilling college requirements. We understand that preparation for undergraduate and graduate courses is essential to the success of our students. We therefore continue to strive to ensure college readiness in this discipline. The Social Studies Department prepares students to succeed by providing a global awareness which encourages them to become productive citizens of the world.

Social Studies educators at MECPS are indeed committed to the idea of world peace and global unity. Our teachers therefore participate in a variety of experiences outside of the classroom and bring with them an understanding of global issues through personal experiences. Traveling and studying abroad throughout Europe, Africa, The Middle East and the Latin America region, our educators have experienced diverse cultures yet are able to see the commonalities that exist throughout humanity. We pass on these experiences to our students and communicate the vital importance of world peace and the preservation of our environment.
