English Department Mission Statement
The Mission of the English Department at Medgar Evers College Preparatory
School is to thoroughly prepare our students for an enriching educational
and intellectual experience that will enable them to be productive
citizens in a global society. We firmly believe that our students,
individually and collectively, can change the world and that this
capability for change can be fostered through transforming our classrooms
into real life experiences that will enable our students to become
life long learners, leaders and critical thinkers. Our classrooms
provide students with an appreciation for literature and the ability
to express themselves in both written and oral form. We celebrate
student diversity, and believe that with their unique talents and
the creation of culturally responsive and nurturing classrooms,
our students will gain respect for their culture and the culture
of others.

Welcome to the English Department at
Medgar Evers College Preparatory School . Our philosophy is that
every student develops the ability to think critically while enhancing
their communication and social skills.
Ours is a staff committed to excellence in teaching, encouraging
awareness of literature and broadening the field of literary inquiry
while maintaining a lively and friendly atmosphere. The cultural
diversity of the staff accommodates a unique pedagogical style,
which they utilize in preparing the students for the global community.
The curriculum provides a solid foundation and appreciation of
literature as it introduces progressive intellectual challenges.
With the use of The New York Times, Digital/Visual Aids,
Ethnically Diverse Literature and works from the Literary Canon,
our students are well prepared.
In addition to the New York State required instruction in ELA Regents
